Abstract

Various studies conducted at international
leve/ have shown a significant incidence of failures of
prothesico-arterial bridges, particular/y those in which
distal anastomosis is /ocated at infrapoplitea/ leve/,
in sma/1 calibre arteries. Primary permeability is
approximately 40% after one year and 12% after 4
years, evolution. In a paper concerning experimental
work carried out by the Basic Surgery department,
which was presented to the Uruguayan Congress of
Surgery in 1997, we showed that there was a /ower
incidence of miointimal hyperplasia (MIH) after one
month 's evolution in distal porthesico-arterial anastomosis
with venous ring, in sheep.
