Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Experience with 504 cases

Between February 1991 and Ju/y 1993, 504 laparoscopic
cholecystectomies were carried out in patients with gal/
bladder and choledochal lithiasis, and acule cholecystitis.
Ages ranged between 8 and 85 years; with a media of
48; 218 males and 286 fema/es. There was a O, 16
mortality. (One patient died 6 hours after the procedure
with a heart pacemaker.)
Whenever cholecochal lithiasis was suspected, CRE was
carried out, adn laparoscopic cholecystectomy was
performed 48 hours later. In 8 cases conventional
technique had to be adopted due to difficulties in hilum
disection, inflammatory sclerosis and cholecystoduodenal
fistula.
No reoperations were needed. There was no legion of
the biliar vine. As our experience grew, relative
counterindications decreased; only those absolute ones
far any surgery remain.
