Abstract

Out of a total of 87 cases involving surgery of carotid artery, the authors found 17 in which there was kinking of internal carotid.
Decision tó operate was taken on the basis of clinical, radiological and hemodynamic elements. It is worth noting the usefulness of x-ray pictures of different head positions and of preoperatory photoplethysmographic studies, in detection of circulatory insufficiency of internal carotid-ophthalmic axis.
The surgical technique employed was correction through resection of kinking isolating internal carotid artery by means of clamping and leaving the primitive carotid-external carotid axis permeable at all times.
