Abstract

The cfrculatory system has a powerful interna! hemodynamic power from which it is protected, as a whole, by different tissues which form what we may cell a "system of arterial protection". This system is formed in the following manner: a) in the main circulation, by the peri-arterial sheaths of the celulo-fatty tissue and by the satellite veins; b) in pulmonary
circulation by the· elastic pulmonary parenchima and by the negative intrathoracic pressure; c) in the central nervous system by the spinal fluid which surrounds the arteries; d) in the heart by the pericardium, the pulmonary parenchima and the negative intra-thoracic pressure; e) in the ascending aorta and the pulmonary artery by the auricular appendiges and atria which form, where it leaves the heart, an enveloping low pressure hydraulic cushion, The failure of the protection system can cause hemodynamic arteriosclerosis. The
means for preserving the protection system and prevent hemodynamic arteriosclerosis, are discussed
