Post-vagotomy acute gastric dilation and drainage operation

A report is made of a case of acute gastric dilatation following vagotomy and pyloroplasty because of uncomplicated duodenal ulcus. In conection with this observation a
survey is carried out of this extremely severe-although fortunately infrequentcomplication of Dragstedt's operation. On the basis of the various and often contradictory opinions contained in the literature on the subjects, an outline of the surgical course to· be adopted in the cases is set out; a descrimination being established between the prevention and treatment factors involved.
